Tepotzlan, Morelos

This cute little town, surrounded by mountains, offers a well-preserved historic center and a gorgeous view on some cliffs. There is also a nice hike to the top of the mountain. All this only 80km south of Mexico City by bus.

The reason why we decided to explore Tepotzlan was to go on a hike to Tepozteco Pyramid, which is on the top of the moutain near the village. The hike lasts approximatively 2 hours (1h15 to go to the top and 45min to go down) and it is made of stones and stairs.

The hike is quite steep but is accessible to children. Most of it is under the shade of the jungle so the heat is not too much of an issue. I really liked the scenic views, it was hard to believe we were only 80km away from Mexico City!

Once we reached the top, we paid a small entrance fee to the ruins (50 pesos). The pyramid is actually not that great, it is very small and doesn't really look like a pyramid anymore, but the view, on the other hand, is BEAUTIFUL. I can easily undertsand why the mayans decided to build something up there ;)

Here's the Pyramid. As I said, it's not impressive at all, but you can actually climb it and get a very very nice view of the valley.

Believe me, this view of the valley is worth hiking 1h15! So quiet, so impressive. I loved it!

After all this effort, we had a great dinner at a really good and colorful restaurant, Los Colorines. Vivien had some mole, I had a weird plant called huauzontle and Clémence, my cousin who was visiting us, ordered brocoli patties. It was good and cheap. The setting of the restaurant was also very pretty.

Apparently, you cannot visit Tepoztlan without having some icecream at Tepoznieve. We didn't want to disrespect this tradition so we stopped there for a treat and it was delicious! I had rose petal and guanabana icrecream, with a chocolate cone. Yummy :)
