Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca

Vivien & I chilled in Puerto Escondido during three days in a very cool airbnb with an ocean view and we loved it (despite the burning heat!). Puerto Escondido (meaning "Hidden Port" in english) is probably the most important beach city of the Oaxacan coast. Since the waves in the area are huge, it is full of surfers, backpackers and Mexican families so the atmosphere is very laid-back.

Because we have been traveling A LOT recently, this time we decided to just enjoy the beach, the sun and REST. Among all our chilling activities, we watched the sunset while drinking great pina coladas at a very cool bar by the beach, called Palapita (refills are only 20 pesos during happy hour).

We also took long walks by Zicatela Beach and sit in front of the ocean just to watch the massive waves and surfers. I had never seen waves this big in my life! Unfortunately, waves at Zicatela are so huge and the current so strong that it is too dangerous to swim.

We found a very cute, calmer beach called Playa Carrizalillo. It's situated within a bay so the waves are not too strong and they are perfect for swimming and for beginers at surfing. Playa Carrizalillo takes a bit of effort to get to, as you have to use some really high stairs because it's hidden behind a cliff - but it's worth the effort!

We spent the afternoon laying on deckchairs, drinking fresh coconut water. The water was at the perfect temperature and the sand super soft. So idyllic. I definitely recommend the place.

During our stay, we also explored the Ventanilla's mangroves as a day trip, which I definitely recommend.
